The panel aims to address challenges introduced by big data, from computational theory to effective techniques for querying big data. It is to highlight the need for developing new query evaluation techniques beyond MapReduce in the context of big data. It will also explore the other side of big data that has been overlooked by and large, namely, veracity, or the quality of big data. |

WAIM is a leading international conference for researchers, practitioners, developers, and users to share and exchange ideas, results, experience, techniques, and tools in connection with all aspects of Web data management. As the 14th event in the increasingly popular series, WAIM2013 expects to attract participants from all over the world to Beidaihe, a famous resort in China, and continues to establish WAIM as one of the major conferences on Web-based information systems.
The WAIM2013 organization committee invites submissions of technical papers for WAIM2013, to be held in Beidaihe, China, June 14-16, 2013. Submissions are invited on all aspects related to Web-age information management. All submissions should be in English. A submission should be no more than 12 pages, including all figures. Each paper will be fully refereed by the program committee and judged on its originality, significance, technical quality, relevance to WAIM2013 as well as presentation. Submission of a paper should be regarded as an undertaking that, should the paper be accepted, at least one author will attend the conference to present the work.
The proceedings of WAIM2013 will be published by Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series, one volume for the main conference and one volume for the workshops. Both will be indexed by EI. A selected number of the accepted papers will be expanded and revised for a Special Issue of the WWW journal.
In addition to regular papers, WAIM2013 invites proposals for workshops, panels, and industry presentations. For workshops, WAIM2013 will provide administrative support for room booking, registration, and paper publication.
The DYL (Distinguished Young Lecturer) Series is a new feature introduced to WAIM2013. The purposes of the DYL series are three-fold:
- to promote and involve active young researchers who have made significant progresses in establishing themselves with highly visible and influential achievements in the web data management community, by sharing their experiences and lessons with the general audience;
- to set a model example of making good technical presentations for student audience;
- to provide a venue for the young researchers to interact and mingle with the students, thereby attract good students for possible collaborative research subsequently
Depending on the effect, it is hoped and expected that the series shall carry on and continue in subsequent WAIM series.
